扶輪之宗旨在於鼓勵並培養以服務精神為可貴事業之基礎，尤其著重於鼓勵與培養：
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular. to encourage and foster:

第一：增廣相識，為擴展服務之機會。
First: The development acquaintance as an opportunity for service.

第二：在各種事業及專門職務中，提高道德之標準，認識一切有益於社會的業務之價值，及每一扶輪社員應尊重其本身之業務，藉以服務社會。
Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

第三：每一社員能以服務精神應用於其個人事業及社會之生活。
Third: The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life.

第四：透過結合具有服務精神之各種事業及專門職務人士，以世界性之聯誼，增進國際間之瞭解、親善與和平。
Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

四　大　考　驗  THE FOUR-WAY TEST
從扶輪組織成立的初期，扶輪社員就關心並且鼓勵在專業上遵守崇高的道德標準。1932年扶輪社員赫柏．泰勒Herbert J. Taylor（他後來擔任1954-55年度國際扶輪社長）受聘負責挽救一家瀕臨破產的公司時，創訂了四大考驗。這24個英文字的考驗成為員工在事業及專業生活上凡是與銷售、產品、廣告及所有與生意往來及顧客有關的指南，使公司得以扭轉乾坤生存下來，證實此一簡單的哲學確實有效。1943年扶輪採用四大考驗，為全世界的扶輪社員們在事業及專業生活上所遵行。四大考驗目前已經被翻譯成100多種語言。 我們所想、所說、所做的事應事先捫心自問：
Of the things we think, say or do:

1. 是否一切屬於真實？
1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. 是否各方得到公平？
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?<

3. 能否促進親善友誼？
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. 能否兼顧彼此利益？
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
